VOX Station ID´s :

German TV station VOX decided a few years ago to go for a rather outstanding concept to present themselves concerning their station ID´s. The red ball within their logo is used as the key visual element in the campaign.
The red ball is travelling througout the whole world and people from all over the world get in touch with it. The visual concept is to find extraordinary , strong images with a documetary feeling in it. The people in front of the camera are all locals , " faces " , not models , in their own surrounding and with their usual clothes. No set dressing, no costumes , no digital effects afterwards.
Every season has its own images . VOX has a winter/ christmas, spring/easter , summer and autumn campaign.

So far I shot 5 series of VOX station ID´s and I , personally , like this campaign very much because  of the challenge to find extraordinary images , special framings in a very spontanious way in an unknown surrounding .We´ve been to Namibia , North Norway, Mallorca and Trinidad/Tobaga.

It´s a documentary way of shooting with a very small team , excellent , but  practical equipment for outdoors under extreme circumstances ( desert or ice and snow )and fast to move. Nevertheless , the images are not supposed to look documentary style but extemely high quality and artistically outstanding.
I use only the natural light and care very much for the right time to shoot a certain image, concerning the direction of sunlight. The framing and the choice of lens becomes the most important aspect of the image. It´s a bit like stills photography. And it´s great to have all these different people with " real " faces in front of the camera.
Torsten and I decide very spontanious , what to do with the people after we got a feeling of the place where we are. And no matter wether it´s human beings or animals , we leave it to the moment what is happening.

The summer campaign 2000 won the silver award at Promax/ BDA in Amsterdam.
